An upright Kotel at sunset, its stone glowing amber and gold beneath a wide sky of honey and violet-grey, with the Old City skyline above and small figures at prayer below.
Printed on a matte, fine-weave canvas and stretched over solid wood. The impasto look and the gold were made digitally and are part of the printed image, so the surface is smooth, with no raised paint and no glass between you and the colour.
The sky takes the upper third of this piece: long bands of honey gold and amber drawn across soft violet-grey, with the sun low on the right behind a line of dark cypress trees. Under it the skyline of the Old City sits along the top of the Wall, and the Wall itself runs from one edge to the other in amber, ochre and deep gold. On the left, old stone buildings keep a few doorways lit. A row of small dark figures stands close to the stones, and beneath them the open plaza comes forward to the bottom edge in broad strokes of ochre and warm brown.
This piece was composed upright from the start, which gives the evening sky height to open and the plaza depth to spread. The thick palette-knife impasto style belongs to the image, and the printed canvas comes out smooth and even. Its warm glow suits a foyer, the wall beside a staircase, a narrow wall between windows or a tall living room wall, and it sits comfortably with oak, linen and pale walls.
