KotelArtstore is committed to making this site usable by everyone, including people who browse with a screen reader, a keyboard alone, screen magnification, or without a mouse.

The standard we work to

This site is built to conform with WCAG 2.1 Level AA – the international standard referenced by Israeli Standard IS 5568 and by accessibility legislation in the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union. Where WCAG 2.1 and the older WCAG 2.0 differ, we have followed the newer requirement.

What has been done

  • Every page is delivered as ordinary HTML. There is no JavaScript step between the server and the content, so assistive technology receives the full page immediately.
  • Colour contrast was measured on every text style against the exact background it sits on, and the palette was adjusted until all body text meets or exceeds the 4.5:1 minimum.
  • The entire site can be operated with a keyboard alone. Focus is always visible, focus order follows reading order, and no element traps focus.
  • A skip to content link is the first thing a keyboard or screen-reader user reaches on every page.
  • Every page has exactly one main heading, headings descend in order without skipping levels, and the page is divided into standard landmark regions.
  • All images carry alternative text. Decorative images are marked so screen readers pass over them rather than reading them aloud.
  • Form fields have visible labels, declare their purpose for autofill, and report errors in text beside the field they belong to, never by colour alone.
  • Interactive controls meet the 24×24 pixel minimum target size.
  • Animation is disabled automatically for anyone whose system requests reduced motion.
  • No content flashes, moves on its own, or plays audio without being asked.

What we are still improving

Accessibility is ongoing work, and these are the areas we are working on:

  • Checkout is built on WooCommerce. We have styled its forms for contrast and labelled every field, and an invalid field is marked by more than colour alone. We have adapted it as far as the platform allows, and if anything makes an order difficult, contact us and we will gladly take the order for you by email.
  • Embedded videos. Where a product page includes a YouTube video, the player is provided by YouTube. Videos are never required in order to understand or buy a product.
  • Captions on video. Our own uploaded videos contain no spoken narration, and we are adding captions as we produce more.
